The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the Great News 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
