۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
