The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
