The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
