The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
