The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
