The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
