The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
