The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the great event, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
