The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 And there will follow it the next blast. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Their eyes humbled. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: that then shall be a losing return. 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 He showed him the mighty sign, 20 But he denied and disobeyed, 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. 24 So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Everlasting Life, and of this world. 25 Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah. 26
