The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By those who drag forth to destruction, 1 and those that draw out violently, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 When we have become bones decayed! 11 They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 So that is not but a single shout. 13 And they will wake up suddenly. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 then he mustered 23 Yet to a rich man, 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
