The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). 3 and yet overtake [one another] with swift overtaking: 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 Indeed, it will be but one shout, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- 18 And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 and gathered his people and declared: 23 And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." 24 Wherefore Allah laid hold of him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of the present. 25 Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). 26
