The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 On the day when the trembling one will tremble. (The disbelievers will certainly taste the punishment.) 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They say: Shall we indeed be restored to (our) first state? 10 even after we have turned into decayed bones?" 11 They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 His Lord called to him in the Sacred Valley of Towa, 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" 19 And he showed him the greatest sign, 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 “I am the supreme lord of you all.” 24 So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. 25 Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. 26
