The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 And then they speed with foremost speed. 4 And who plan the implementation. 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 Hearts that Day will be in agitation; 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, 10 "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" 11 They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 Recall what time his Lord called unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa. 16 [saying], "Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds, 17 "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 And he showed him the tremendous token. 20 In response, he denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 Then gathered he and summoned 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
