The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By those (angels) that pluck out the soul from depths, 1 by the angels who gently release the souls of the believers, 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake, 6 followed by the succeeding, 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 and their eyes will be humbled. 9 They say: shall we indeed be restored to the first state, 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 It will only be a single blast, 13 When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself 18 "'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 Then turned he away in haste, 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Surely, in this there is a lesson for he that fears! 26
