The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And who softly release the soul of the believer. 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 By the angels hastening, 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake, 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 hearts will be throbbing, 8 Their looks will be downcast. 9 They shall say, 'What, are we being restored as we were before? 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 It will be only one scaring shout, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; 18 and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' 19 He showed him the mighty sign, 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 He then turned away, striving in his effort. 22 and gathered his people and declared: 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Everlasting Life, and of this world. 25 Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. 26
