He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
