He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
