He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
