He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
