He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
