He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
