He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
