He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
