He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
