He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
