He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
