He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
