He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
