He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
