He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
