He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
