He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
