He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
