He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
