He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
