He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
