He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
