He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
