He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
