He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
