He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
