He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
