He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
