He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
