He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
