He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
