He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
