He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
