He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
